Abstract
Correction needs to develop informative statistics on the admission and outcome of its clients. Three kinds of statistics will be in great demand if correction is to be guided by pertinent information on its caseload: volume statistics, to reveal the nature of input and output; diagnostic statistics, to reveal the differential handling of cases according to screening procedures; and outcome statistics, to provide data on the impact of correc tional handling.
