Abstract
There is a fertile field of negotiation in contacts between the defense attorney, working in the best interest of his client, and the probation officer, who must balance the rights of society against concern for the defendant. This common ground, where plans and ideas can be exchanged, is often neglected or ignored by both sides. The lack of contact or of attempts at understanding may be caused by mistrust or overwork. The article points out that the attorney and the probation officer have many opportuni ties to meet to the advantage of client and society.
