Abstract
What advantages does a day-care program for adjudicated delinquents have over the traditional round-the-clock institution? In addition to its much lower cost, day care does not divorce the child from his family. The burden of responsibility remains with the family. In a day-care program for girls set up in San Mateo County (Redwood City) , Calif., girls and their families receive intensive counseling to help them deal with their problems and run their own lives. The program shows great promise and the authors discuss its many ramifications and implications.
