Adolescent Delinquency and the Myth of Hospital Treatment

Abstract

This article reports the experience of a psychiatric hospital's inpatient services for 247 adolescents between July 1, 1961, and June 30, 1964. Categories of referrals and patterns of community expectations are analyzed. Most of the referrals result from de linquency and are initiated by persons other than the patient or his family; e.g., courts, physicians, attorneys, sheriffs.
