Abstract
To effectively eliminate sexual violence under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), it is crucial for correctional administrators to have a comprehensive understanding of this law. Train-the-Trainer models have gained popularity as an effective andragogy-based form of instruction for adult learners that can tackle complex subjects, including PREA. This study features interview data from 29 correctional administrators in a Southeastern state prison system who participated in a Train-the-Trainer seminar on this federal legislation. Thematic analysis of the data revealed key findings: (1) The model facilitated necessary cultural changes within institutions, fostering greater empathy toward sexual assault victims; and (2) Administrators expressed a need for more practical, rather than theoretical, knowledge on PREA. Policy implications are discussed.
