An examination of the scope and dimensions of adult counseling programs in the United States. Emphasis is placed upon a 1974 national survey of adult career planning and development programs conducted by the American Institutes for Research. Counseling programs for women, ethnic minorities, and mid-career change are highlighted. Prospective strategies to improve the future effectiveness of adult counseling efforts are discussed.
