Attention is called to the probability that counselors and psychotherapists share the age stereotypes of other Americans. These definitions of appropriate behavior vary somewhat by age and sex of people under consideration and perhaps by age, sex, and other characteristics of those who are stereotyping. Three kinds of age bias are noted: age restrictiveness, age distortion, and negative attitudes associated with particular ages.
