Abstract
An initial survey of mentoring relationships for front-line hotel-industry employees shows that employees who have a mentor are inclined to demonstrate above-average commitment to their hotel. Workers with mentors were much more likely than others to agree strongly with such statements as: “I am willing to put in a great deal of effort beyond that normally expected to help this hotel be successful”, “This hotel really inspires the very best in me in the way of job performance”, and “For me, this is the best of all possible hotels to work for.” The study also found that employees with mentors were less likely to agree with the proposition that they would be working for another hotel in the next two years.
