Abstract
Computers have changed the nature of multiunit food-service operations, both at the unit level and at corporate headquarters. For each multiunit format-quick service, table service, and institutional service-there are appropriate computer applications, as there are for each level-the unit and the district, regional, and national offices. Data movement can make good use of communication and networking technology. Food-service chains are adopting computer networks at an unprecedented rate. Desktop publishing, transaction-processing technology, electronic marketing, electronic and voice mail, and labormanagement applications are likewise being implemented.
