Abstract
As suggested in the accompanying article, tourism development requires careful and comprehen sive planning if it is to achieve its maximum economic and social potential. One often neglected area of tourism development is orientation and training for the native population newly exposed to the markedly different lifestyles and concerns of visitors to their countries. To address this need, Kenya Utalii College in Nairobi established its MAPATO program, described in the following paragraphs by David Blanton, project director, and J. L. Aeschlimann, college principal.
