Abstract
Land use for state and national parks is con stantly growing to meet the recreational needs of Americans. The dearth of open land in many heavily populated areas emphasizes the need for wise development. Dr. Gunn feels that gov ernmental agencies should work closely with commercial developers and non-profit organiza tions in order to develop the type of recreational facilities people want and will use. When sepa rate approaches, often in opposing directions, are followed the best interests of the people are not served and the project can become sterile and stereotyped. This article is based on an ad dress delivered by Dr. Gunn on October 15, 1968, at the Seattle Congress for Recreation and Parks. — Ed.
