Abstract
In Europe, as in the United States, motor car travel is zooming along new networks of super highways. And where there are motorists, there are motor inns. Major oil companies are leading the way in European motel development. Among the pioneers are Standard Oil of New Jersey's European Motor Service Division and Italy's AGRIP. Other oil companies entering the race are British Petroleum (with Rank Motor Inns), Gulf Petroleum (with Holiday Inns and Trave- Lodge), and also Shell, Mobil, and Cal-Tex. Hilton Hotels International and Howard John son are also in the field.
The article below, prepared by Standard Oil of New Jersey, tells of the approach Esso uses in establishing motel and service station projects. Esso's motor inns are completely financed by the parent company and operated by its Motel Ser vices division. - Ed.
