Abstract
The article presents, discusses and assesses some characteristic approaches to the study of SALT. Ten explanatory models are identified: the bureaucratic politics inter pretation, the domestic or democratic politics interpretation, the Royal Court inter pretation, the Soviet Marxist-Leninist interpretation, the Military Industrial Complex interpretation, the 'Autism' model interpretation, the technological innovation and momentum interpretation, the action-reaction interpretation, the linkage politics inter pretation, and the strategic interpretation. The article concludes that studies dealing with SALT as a political factor in an international context are needed.
