Abstract
For best management of chronic diseases, one must use community or ganizations, political action and consumer representation along with more traditional tools of contemporary medicine. In this way the accomplish ments and opportunities of social medicine parallel those of biologic medicine. The farsighted physician must acquire expertise in both areas.
