The infant of the diabetic mother continues to be a critical problem for the clinician in that approximately 35 per cent of conceptions of diabetic mothers end in intra-uterine or neonatal death. This report outlines the problems posed by these infants, reviews some recent ad vances in knowledge, suggests additional research which must be done, and outlines a program of management.
