The records of 50 patients treated at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for staphylococcal pneumonia and its complications have been reviewed. Nine of these patients died despite vigorous treatment. This is a highly fatal disease, especially in the very young. It must be treated as a true surgical emergency. A plan of treatment is discussed.
