Study objectives include: (1) evaluation of home visitor (HV) attendance at well child checks (WCCs) on family adherence to American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) WCC recommended schedule and number of Emergency Department (ED) and Urgent Care (UC) visits, and (2) qualitative exploration of participant perspectives of this intervention. A retrospective, 3-year cohort study was conducted using a multi-model home visiting database. The intervention group included home visiting participants who experienced HV attendance at WCCs; controls received routine home visiting services only. Study groups were compared for number of ED/UC visits, and WCCs completed based on the AAP recommendations. Qualitatively, semi-structured interviews and focus groups with 10 HVs, 9 medical providers, and 9 caregivers were conducted. Transcripts were analyzed with grounded theory and thematic analysis. HV participation in WCCs increased adherence with recommended WCC schedules. Participants also identified multiple benefits of HVs attending WCCs. Further studies are warranted to evaluate additional long-term health outcomes.
