Abstract
Taking a medieval Egyptian Islamic hagiography as its reference point, this study explores dimensions of religious textuality with special interest in the materiality of intertextual sources. Focusing our study on the material and artwork status of the text as object, we begin to retrieve a neglected component of textual studies. Drawing on Genette’s idea of the paratext, with its open-ended and evolving conception of textuality, along with the appearance of these same texts as “material-texts” within the hagiography, we may cross the divide between discursive textuality and material culture. This traverse is made possible in the text through the performative and embodied treatments of intertext material.
A partir d’une hagiographie islamique égyptienne médiévale, cette étude porte sur les dimensions de la textualité religieuse avec un intérêt particulier dans la matérialité de sources intertextuelles. Cette étude sur la situation matérielle du texte comme objet récupère une dimension négligée des études textuelles. S’appuyant sur l’idée de Genette sur le paratexte, avec sa conception ouverte et évolutive de la textualité, avec l’apparition de ces mêmes textes comme « matériel-textes » au sein de l’hagiographie, nous pouvons franchir le fossé entre la textualité discursive et la culture matérielle. Cette traversée est rendue possible dans le texte par les traitements performatifs et incarnés de matériel intertexte.
