Abstract
The purpose of this study was to establish Montreal norms for the Southern California Postrotary Nystagmus Test (SCPNT). A total of 190 children, eight to twelve years of age, from Montreal, Quebec, participated in the study, 146 of whom were included in the normative data. The Montreal norms for the duration of postrotary nystagmus (PRN) were provided in the form of tolerance intervals. These norms were then compared with the original Los Angeles sample of 226 children. The findings revealed significantly different means and standard deviations in the duration of PRN between the Montreal normative data and Ayres' Los Angeles data. In addition, this study focused attention on the statistical and psychometric principles that must be considered when establishing norms. Future studies on measurement of PRN using the SCPNT were recommended.
