Abstract
This study was designed to describe the quality and the duration of the prone extension position in five and seven year old normal children and to determine the differences in the quality and duration of this position in this population. Thirty, 5-year-old normal children and thirty, 7-year-old normal children attending two elementary schools in the city of Kingston, Ontario formed the sample for this study. Each child was tested individually on the ability to assume and hold the prone extension position. Results of the study illustrated that both the five and seven year old children were able to assume a good prone extension position for a considerable period of time, and that there were no significant differences between their abilities. The results were discussed in relation to the findings of other investigators, with implications for further study.
