A Wheelchair Seatbelt for Elderly Patients

Abstract

This article describes the design, materials, use and adaptations of a seatbelt designed to support an elderly patient sitting in a standard adult size wheelchair. The seatbelt was designed in response to a growing need for positioning of the many disabled, elderly patients now found in acute-care hospitals. To-date the seatbelt has been used successfully by four different patients.
