Abstract
Leisure education programmes have recently been incorporated into some grade school settings. Prior to this exciting curriculum addition however, very little education for leisure has been offered to members of our work-oriented society. Consequently, a large percentage of the population is without functional leisure skills.
An occupational therapist offering leisure counselling approaches an individual holistically, recognizing that a balance of work, play and self care will result in maximal lifestyle functioning. Definitions, process descriptions, rationales and techniques of leisure counselling have been concisely outlined in a manner such that a qualified occupational therapist will be able to utilize the information in a variety of settings.
