Abstract
To study the dynamics of social processes it is natural to start by looking at the movement of people between different categories. Since almost all the moves are lru:gely unpredictable at the individual level it is necessary for a model to describe the mechanism of movement in probabilistic terms. In the present paper we have used a Markov model to describe career pattern of individuals in an open society where gains and losses are taken into account. Some measures of career pattern based on above model have been developed and the simulated distribution of the measures have also been studied.
