ABSTRACT:
This paper discusses the roles and challenges for statisticians in statistical data base management. It discusses the difference between statistical data model and the category‐numeric data model used in statistical data base management. It shows how some numerical operations, commonly used in statistical analysis can be combined with relational operations of data base management to improve the performance of statistical analysis using data base management. Some of the operations discussed are : flelxible multivariate structures, selection domains, domain joins, domain ordering, tuple ordering, domain union, domain intersections, outer joins of domains, etc.
