This paper describes the validation of a set of attitude scales developed by Keeves (1972) for use with Australian school students. The four scales are: Motivation to Achieve in School Learning; Respect and Confidence in Self; Attitudes towards School and School Learning; and Attentiveness in Science Lessons. In particular, the use of teachers’ ratings as a method for validating such scales is examined.
