Abstract
Of his more recent contributions to education—and it is for these that the Mackie Medal is awarded—two in particular must be mentioned. Dr. Radford was, in 1969–70, a member of the Karmel Committee to report on Education in South Australia. In 1969 he was appointed Chairman of the Committee to Review Public Examinations in Queensland. The report of that committee is now commonly referred to as the ‘Radford Report’. There is no doubt that the work of these two committees has exercised and will continue to exercise profound effects upon educational thought and practice in these two States, and probably throughout Australia. Dr. Radford's part in this work, as well as his many other contributions to education, bring honour both to the recipient and to the Mackie Medal itself.
