A patient is reported who had benign mucous membrane pemphoid (BMMP) with life-threatening esophageal stenosis. Esophageal involvement is an uncommon, but not rare, manifestation of BMMP. Blisters and erosions eventually lead to web-like adhesions and finally stricture. At least three deaths directly attributable to esophageal involvement have been reported.
