The clinical diagnosis of acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the lower limbs has always been a difficult problem. A great deal of investigation has been made in order to detect this disease.1-3 This paper deals with 1 aspect of the noninvasive investigation of acute DVT, strain gauge plethysmography (SGP). 4-8 Our intention is to study the sensitivity and reliability of this test, especially in the difficult diagnosis of acute DVT, using a new SGP tech nique.9,10
