Recruitment and Retention of University String Education Students: Advice from around the Country

Abstract

String teacher training has always been an important focus of ASTA with NSOA, whose leaders recognize that well-trained teachers are best able to attract and develop the greatest number of well-trained string players. ASTA with NSOA also recognizes the realities of the current job market—well-trained teachers have a better chance of finding gainful employment than well-trained performers who do not have teaching skills. The job market for public school string teachers seems especially optimistic in many regions of the United States today.
