Abstract
All my life I have had a dream of the consummate artist who would incorporate into his playing the many profiles of humanity, who seemed to embrace the whole universe in his vision. It is with great joy and gratitude that I dedicate the following thoughts on interpretation to my dear friend, Mstislav Rostropovitch, whose generosity of heart speaks for humanity and whose unique artistry has meant the realization of my dream.
