Abstract
Having often struggled during our years as ASR Editors to adjust the number of words in article titles to fit the space limitations of ASR's page design, we have been struck by the sheer length of many of the titles that we see. To gain perspective on this matter, we furnished Howard S. Becker, the longest-serving member of our Editorial Board, with some relevant data on ASR manuscript titles and invited him to write the following editorial. — Eds.
