Having reached my own centenary, I can only say that I wish Geoffrey could be reaching his in 1994, instead of having left us in 1982 at the age of 87. His wisdom and foresight are sadly needed in today's world, whose problems he clearly predicted. His proposals for dealing with those problems, and for avoiding them where possible, are as valid today as when he made them. One can only hope that his books, with their clear signposts for the future, will reach and enrich present and future generations in the same way they have enlightened those of the past.
