Cultural issues played a central role in the 1992 presidential campaign, especially at the Republican National Convention. This article explores the potential divisiveness of conservative positions on issues such as abortion and gay rights for the Republican party and suggests that social issues will continue to be source of conflict among competing factions within the party.
