Abstract
Professor Schwartz, with two associates at Columbia University, recently proved the existence of the second neutrino, a discovery of major significance to physics. In this article he discusses factors inhibiting creativity in physics, using for illus tration a case analogous to the actual historical sequence in research on the second neutrino. He emphasizes the dangers of "production line research".
