Abstract
Economic development in less-developed areas is only one facet of a complex pat tern of change that requires continued adjustment among the political, social, and economic sectors of life. The author suggests that the term systemic adjustment best represents the process. He is senior research associate with the Foreign Areas Studies Division of The American University.
