Abstract
The many ways in which legislators behave to reduce their personal, interpersonal, and collective ten sions of the legislative process are indicated. Tech niques of investigation are suggested. Actions, such as excessive formality, become understandably function al, rather than simply ludicrous, in the new logical context.
