Abstract
Remarkable gains in man's struggle against disease have brought about an unprecedented growth in world population. This report discusses the recent trends of popula tion growth, in both developed and developing regions, as well as the expected trends up to the end of the present century. The changes in fertility and mortality levels are also presented. The population projections recently prepared by the United Nations, the underlying assumptions, data sources, principal factors of uncertainty, and methods are summarized.
