Abstract
Thirty million Americans are participating in recreational boating as a major form of leisure activity. They will spend $1,500,000,000 on a total of 6,500,000 pleasure craft this year. How did boating reach these fantastic pro portions and what are the reasons for its growth, particularly in those years fol lowing World War II? Reasons are given for the rise of recreational boating as the nation's number one family sport.
