Abstract
This article focuses upon three problems in the comparative analysis of consumption in three culturally and geographically closely related countries, Estonia, Finland and Sweden. The first problem concerns the comparison of consumption structures. The second problem confronted in the study concerns the comparison of changes in con sumption structures in the three countries. Finally, an attempt is made to ascertain whether differences between social classes were greater than differences between coun tries. Although the results reveal remarkable differences between classes in each country, national differences in consumption structures were usually even more pronounced.
