Abstract
In the comparison of class and stratification structures between countnes there are two main approaches. According to the first, the differences are mostly explained by the differences of industrial structures. According to the second, there are for each country specific political, economic and social factors which largely explain the differences. The data-matrix was based on national censuses and was the five-variable cross-tabulation of Nation (Denmark-Finland-Sweden), Industry (12 industries), Gender. Time ( 1930- 1950-1970), and Occupational Status (entrepreneur-employee). The results show that the differences in proportions of entrepreneurs are mainly explained by the different industnal structures The impact of national factor was only of little importance. Thus the first approach seems to be more valid than the second one.
