Abstract
Over the last decades we have seen an impressive progress of rational action theory (RAT) in the social sciences, which produced models with high explanatory and predictive power for different instances of human behaviour. RAT, however, presents serious limitations when integrating the influence of social structure in its models, as it sees human behaviour solely as the outcome of utility-maximisation equations rationally calculated by individuals. Rooted in Bourdieu's habitus as a force that orients practice, this article introduces a neo-Bourdieusian gravity equation that complements RAT.
