Abstract
A patient's chronic vulval pain was unsuccessfully treated with acupuncture, while concurrent treatment for back pain was successful. Trigger points in the paraspinal muscles were needled with resultant cutaneous flares, some of which appeared in the spaces between needles, and might represent a new phenomenon of phantom needles.
