Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the leadership competencies that University Recreational Directors in Wisconsin believe are necessary to achieve success in a collegiate recreational setting. A Delphi Method was used to develop these leadership competencies. This study was done to assist recreational directors in developing the knowledge, understanding, and comprehension of the leadership competencies that might create a successful recreational facility. Three rounds of the Delphi Method were used to get this information. During the first round, 12 leadership competencies were identified as important. The directors narrowed these 12 down to 6 in the second round. The third and final round concluded five leadership competencies. Communication, Management of the budget, Personal management, Adaptability to change, and Commitment and integrity were the five leadership competencies that the directors agreed were necessary to succeed in a collegiate recreational setting.
