Abstract
Risk management and a fundamental knowledge of the law are considered an essential part of the professional preparation for today's recreational sport professional. This study combined a content analysis of legal courses in recreational sport management with the perceived importance of legal areas by administrators in municipal and campus recreational sport settings. The comparison resulted in finding that expectations of the administrators were higher for the legal knowledge of new professionals emerging from graduate level legal courses, the courses at both the undergraduate and graduate curriculum levels were similar, and risk management was perceived as the most important legal area of study for both curricular levels.
