Abstract
The design of the dental office can play a role in improving dentist/patient relationships. The design can also enhance dental services marketing efforts. This study was undertaken to determine the level of satisfaction of dentists in Texas with the design of their offices and to identify which aspects of dental office design needed further improvement. A two–page questionnaire was sent to a random sample of 199 dentists currently practicing in Texas eighty–six (43.2%) responded. The questionnaire asked subjects to evaluate the interior design of their offices. Results determined that as many as one–half of dental office relocations occur because of changes needed in the interior. Dentists do most of the interior planning for their own offices. Features of dental office design perceived to be in need of improvement were: planning of a staff lounge area, access for wheel chairs, and design of the office to be suitable for future plans. “Warmth” and “competency” were images dentists most wanted to communicate to the patient community, and most Dentists perceived a need for improved dental office design services.
