Abstract
Background
Posterior dislocation is a rare complication of total shoulder arthroplasty usually occurring as a result of mal-positioning of the humeral or glenoid components, or due to soft tissue imbalance or deficiency.
Methods
We used the database of a tertiary referral centre in the UK to identify three patients who had revision surgery following a total shoulder arthroplasty for posterior instability.
Results
We report three cases of fixed posterior dislocation of the shoulder following total shoulder arthroplasty.
Discussion
Revision surgery resolved instability and pain in two cases, but was associated with poor function.
