The role of the nonfamily administrator in a family foundation is a challenging one and is often the key to the foundation's ability to accomplish its goals. This article explores the decision to hire nonfamily staff, the impact of family dynamics on administrators, and the factors that influence their effectiveness and job satisfaction. Special mention is made of gender factors in the relationship between trustees and staff.
