BarthesRoland (1970), S/Z, Seuil, Paris. An analysis of Balzac's Sarrasine in terms of the reader's structuring activities as he progresses through the text. Probably Barthes' most important single contribution to literary structuralism.

TodorovTzvetan (1969), Grammaire du Decameron, Mouton, The Hague. A stimulating brief work on story grammar.

CullerJonathan (1974), Flaubert: the Uses of Uncertainty, Paul Elek, London. An often brilliant application of structuralist and Sartrean ideas.
