Unfortunately, there has been little published in English on the PCE. The most up-to-date works are EusebioMujal-León, Communism and Political Change in Spain (Bloomington, Indiana University Press, 1983), and the important articles by PaulPreston in MachinH, (ed), National Communism in Western Europe (London, Methuen, 1983) and KindersleyR, (ed), In Search of Eurocommunism (London, Macmillan, 1981). Several of Carrillo's works have been published by Lawrence and Wishart, but the outstanding book without a doubt is Jorge Semprún's Autobiografía de Federico Sánchez, published in English as Communism in Spain in the Franco Era (Brighton, Harvester, 1979). In Spanish, by contrast, there is a veritable mountain of literature on the PCE. A few of the more worthwhile recent works are: FernandoClaudin, Documentos de una divergencia comunista (Barcelona, El Viejo Topo, 1978) and Santiago Carrillo, Cronica de un secretario-general (Barcelona, Planeta, 1983); ManuelAzcárate, Crisis del Eurocomunismo (Barcelona, Argos Vergara, 1982); PedroVegaPeruErroteta, Los herejes del PCE (Barcelona, Planeta, 1982). Also of great interest are Rossana Rossanda's articles for Il Manifesto on her journey to Spain in 1962, recently published as Un viaje inútil (Barcelona, Laia, 1984).
