Abstract
Osteoporosis is a condition in which the bone matrix is compromised, leading to thin, fragile bones that fracture easily. It has a significant socio-economic impact, both from the cost of treating such fractures and for the individual going through what is often a traumatic experience with a lengthy recovery. Therefore, as clinicians our focus should be on the early identification of disease and instigation of treatment. This article focuses on the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis, summarizing current guidance along with providing practical tips on how to manage affected patients in our consultation rooms.
